About Dr. Hammett

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, David Hammett, MD, of The Hammett Clinic in Columbia, South Carolina, is a summa cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, where he won Track & Field All-ACC academic team honors and was elected to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He earned his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest in 2001. He completed his residency in Neurology at Vanderbilt University and followed that with a clinical fellowship in Vascular Neurology, also at Vanderbilt.

In 2006, Dr. Hammett moved to Columbia to join the faculty at the USC School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Neurology. He helped expand the neurosciences at the medical school for more than four years, and then he entered private practice, where he could truly focus on patient care. Dr. Hammett has experienced all types of medical practice currently seen in the United States—academics, group private practice, hospital- owned practice, and corporate-owned practice. He has experienced first-hand the frustrations and restraints faced by physicians within larger, business-focused organizations. The Hammett Clinic was ultimately borne out of those experiences, and Dr. Hammett now hopes to provide a better alternative for patients in the Midlands of South Carolina and beyond.

Dr. Hammett’s particular clinical interests include comprehensive headache and migraine management, stroke care, movement disorders, and a variety of procedure-based treatments—including a full range of medical and cosmetic uses for Botox and similar injections. Dr. Hammett first became interested in Botox during its early stages of research and development, with his first injection experience dating back to the late 1990’s. He now offers a variety of procedures for cosmetic, aesthetic, and medical purposes.

Dr. Hammett lives in Columbia with his wife, Avra, and his daughter, Caraway. When time allows, they enjoy traveling, boating, and sports.
